Being a creative agency can be difficult. Especially when you’re trying to force creativity…it’s either there or it’s not. As marketing communications professionals we can’t afford an off day when it comes to creativity. As a business owner, neither can you! Here are a few ideas to help knock down those creative barriers and let you get back to work!
It happens to us all. It’s OK. Nobody will be surprised by the fact that you occasionally struggle to think outside the box. If it were easy, everyone would do it. The world’s most creative minds will occasionally draw a blank when trying to push the envelope. If you accept the fact that you’re blocked, you’ll save time and energy. Time and energy that you can spend doing something else that requires your attention. Don’t worry…it will come back!
Brainstorming is very effective when trying to generate ideas. The key to brainstorming is to generate as many ideas as possible, regardless of how “silly” they may seem at the time. A recent article on Inc.com said, “two is better than one when it comes to brainstorming sessions. When you start discussing ideas as a group, you’ll naturally feed off of each other and discover more things. This can be especially helpful for brainstormers such as artists who often do their work solo.” Try this technique with a larger group…give everyone a sticky pad and ask them to write down their ideas versus saying them out loud. This allows the more meek and shy members of the group to be equally heard.
Change your surroundings. A walk on a beautiful day can work wonders for your creativity. It’s not the air that will help rekindle your creative spirit, but the new stimulus that you’ll encounter along the way. If you walk down a busy city street, you’ll see hundreds, if not thousands, of creative marketing messages pushing all sorts of products and services. Maybe one of those will get you kick started. Walk into your local coffee shop and maybe you’ll overhear some chatter that will get you going again. Lifehack.org says, “Changing your scene can do wonders for overcoming creative blocks. Take your work outside, to a local cafe, to the beach, or wherever you can go that feels new and unusual as a working environment.”
We’re talking about creative help of course. We all have our strengths and weaknesses. If you’re coming up dry when you need to be spouting out creative genius, then maybe you just need a fresh set of eyes or a new collaborator. That’s nothing to be ashamed of. That’s why companies like Rock Your Show exist. Your business may perform a service that others can do themselves, but would prefer to hire professionals. Same thing! We’d love to help you knock down those barriers, especially if you’re in a time crunch! Whether it’s a trade show exhibit, large banner printing for your next event, or even custom designed graphics – drop us a line and we’ll see what we can do!
